I have dark brown to black fine hair that has been chemically treated (permanent waves to create more body)and I have used the dark brown Toppik to cover up thinning areas in the front, top and back areas of my scalp. My skin is fair so scalp show through in contrast to my dark hair is very noticeable. Toppik is easy to use and I just shake some product on my problem areas and brush through with a silk and nylon bristled brush. I find that less is more and I get a very natural look with a smaller amount of product. I have never had to use hairspray to "fix" the product and have been happy with the overall look of the product alone. Toppik is best used in mild weather. During summer months, the excessive heat and humidity tends to bring out "spots" on my scalp and show the areas where the Toppik product was placed. During rainy months, wind and rain also wreak havoc on the Toppik product, matting the hair down with "spots" appearing on the scalp. I would skip using Toppik under these weather conditions. I have only used the product on a day to day basis on freshly washed hair. I haven't tried going a few days without shampooing while using the product.
