Bilberry extract was first studied after British pilots in WWII consumed Bilberry fruit to enhance their night vision. Compounds in Bilberry fruit called anthocyanosides aid in the capillary resistance and help protect them from damage by free radicals. Anthocyanosides may improve night vision and adjustment to darkness. Bilberry, a relative of the blueberry, belongs to the heath family.
